Sound of a Mother’s Care (2023), steel, 26,5x60x26,5cm

A bead maze that can be found in any doctor’s waiting room. Children are supposed to refine their motor skills, cognitive abilities, and develop their dexterity by diligently moving the object(s) along the bars of the maze.

Unlike the beloved children’s toy, Sound of a Mother’s Care has sharp spikes and a restrictive path the heart-shaped object can navigate through. Designing the heart-shaped object to travel through a singular winding line that at one point twists too tightly to allow the object to pass through.

As the heart scrapes along the line, the high-pitched screeching sounds of the scraping metal may be perceived as uncomfortable while it is being played with.

The viewer is invited to touch the spikes, they serve as a tactile experience.

When touched and plucked, the spikes create sweet and soothing sounds, resembling a kalimba, creating a stark contrast between the physical appearance and the two different auditory experiences.
